Tarantella Setup

What does Setup do?

For the main Tarantella package, Setup first asks you to agree to the Tarantella Software License Agreement. If you don't agree, you can't install Tarantella Enterprise 3.

Setup then presents a list of recommended settings (including where to install the software, and what license mode you want to use). For each setting, either change it or press Return to accept the default.

Setup ensures that Tarantella starts when the system boots by adding a file in the appropriate start-up directory (usually /etc/rc3.d, depending on what run level your system's in when you install Tarantella).

If you like, Setup can also ensure that Tarantella archives its logs weekly, on the day and at the time you choose. This modifies root's crontab entry.

Setup makes no other changes to system files or directories.

Setup automatically makes the root user a Tarantella Administrator, which means they're allowed to configure Tarantella. Two administration tools, Object Manager and Array Manager, are available on the webtops of Tarantella Administrators.

After installing the files, Setup creates the first objects in your organizational hierarchy: some simple demonstration applications, and objects for Object Manager, Array Manager and Help. These are added to webtops as appropriate -- only Tarantella Administrators can run Object Manager, for example.

When Setup finishes, the Tarantella server is running.

What Setup doesn't do

Setup doesn't configure a web server for use with Tarantella.

Setup doesn't let you change non-essential configuration options: use Object Manager, Array Manager or the command-line tools instead.
